About

Jim was born in Olney, Maryland. He studied acting for 20 years before developing a passion for oil painting in 1994. Primarily self-taught through a careful study of works of the masters, he strives to use bold brush strokes and natural colors. He believes that painting directly from nature helps transcend a photographic representation.

Jim currently divides his time between his home in Wilmington, NC and his farm in Monterey, VA.

Studio

Jim prefers to paint his pictures at the source: outside in nature. And while much of his work is done this way, he spends time in his studio at his home in Wilmington. It is here that he experiments and expands his craft.

It is here that you may also find him relaxing with a guitar, cooking food, or spending time with his standard poodle Sonic.
